Arutz Sheva TV speaks with two young delegates at the World Zionist Congress about the changes they wish to effect in order to make the Congress more significant and influential than it is now.
One of the lighter moments at the Congress was the mock land sale held by Zionist youth organizations such as Bnai Akiva at which they "offered" parts of Israel for sale at a table that held boxes of earth from north, south and central areas of the country. They then staged a mock march of Jews carrying suitcase and holding a giant, blue and white Jewish National Fund charity box, looking for somewhere to live. This original method of protest was staged to highlight the High Court's decision that communities built on Jewish National Fund lands, acquired by "penny after penny dropped into JNF charity boxes by world Jewry", in the words of the youth organiations, cannot be allocated only to Jews, but must be open to Arabs.
The World Zionist Congress elects the officers of the World Zionist Organization and the Jewish Agency. Any Jewish person over age 18 who belongs to a Zionist association is eligible to vote. The Congress also decides on the policies of the WZO. The WZO was founded in 1897, in the First Zionist Congress.
