The Samaria (Shomron) Regional Council is considering suing building freeze inspectors and police for allegedly using excessive violence and ”illegally destroying” pre-fab buildings Monday morning.
Council chairman Gershon Mesika said the structures at the community of Shavei Shomron were legally built, and he charged the police with unnecessarily striking community Rabbi Yehoshua Shmeedat. The rabbi, head of the yeshiva where the buildings are located, appealed to the police to cease the demolition, but he was struck on his hands.
Calling the violent demolitions “the injustice of injustices,” Mesika that at the beginning of the building freeze several months ago, the contractor examined where the inspectors allowed continuation of construction already in progress.
“After three months, after the completion of the skeleton of the buildings, the inspectors arrived a second time to stop the construction," he explained. "The contractor halted the work and filed two appeals that have not been adequately answered. We are considering suing those responsible in order to receive compensation.”
The Yesha Committee of Jewish Communities in Judea and Samaria replied, "Defense Minister Ehud Barak is trying to use force to create violent confrontations in order to win political points.”
The Regavim organization pointed out that the Civil Lands Authority continues to discriminate against Jews, tearing down their homes while allowed hundreds of illegal Arab dwellings to remain.
