The owner of the restaurant 'Azad' in Haifa was questioned by police Thursday following an incident last month in which the restaurant refused to serve an IDF soldier because he was wearing a uniform.

Restaurant owner Anas Ib was questioned in the interrogation offices of the Central Unit in the Hof Precinct. Precinct Commander Roni Atia instructed the unit's investigators to launch a criminal investigation against Ib on suspicion of “discrimination in giving service.”

Meanwhile, a Local Affairs Court ruled Thursday that the Azad restaurant be closed by Sunday because it does not conform with licensing requirements. The ruling is not connected to the incident with the soldier.

The offense of discrimination in giving service is punishable by a fine, which can be redeemed by serving days in jail.

Grassroots Zionist revival group Im Tirtzu held a demonstration outside the restaurant following the alleged discrimination against the soldier.
