IDF soldiers foiled an attempted bombing in northern Gaza on Friday morning. Soldiers spotted terrorists as they attempted to plant a bomb along the security barrier and opened fire.
After an exchange of fire, the terrorists were hit. Arab sources in Gaza later confirmed that one man was killed. Two other terrorists were wounded, they said. The soldiers were unhurt.
The terror cell was reportedly affiliated with Fatah's Al Aksa Martyrs Brigade.
Earlier in the week soldiers foiled a similar bombing attempt. Givati soldiers managed to prevent a terrorist from planting a bomb near the security barrier.
The IDF maintains a buffer zone on either side of the security barrier. Defense officials say terrorists would use the presence of civilians near the barrier to carry out attacks, including kidnapping soldiers, conducting bombings along the barrier, or infiltrating Israeli communities on the other side of the fence.
Gaza Arabs have recently begun targeting the no-go zone in a series of protests. Protesters claim that the roughly 200-meter buffer zone on the Gaza side of the fence wastes valuable agricultural land.
