More than 500 families in Samaria alone received food packages on the eve of the Passover holiday from the Samaria Regional Council.
Each package was worth more than 500 shekels ($130), which included food and beverages, tablecloths for the holiday, cleaning utensils, and other goods for the holiday. Ten new living room sets and 100 pairs of shoes were also distributed.
Religious youth from Shavei Shomron, Einav and Revava, and non-religious youth from Barkan and Nofim banded together to package the items at the Council offices.
The boxes were distributed in more than 30 communities by the region's bus fleet, owned by the Samaria Development Center, which contributed to the effort at the request of the Council.
The Council's Strategic Services division also distributes 100 packages per month, and distributes special packages on other holidays, according to Council head Gershon Mesika.
“A healthy society expresses concern about those in its community who are weaker,” Mesika said in a statement. “We will continue to help those among us who need our help, and we hope and pray that their numbers decline by this time next year.”
