A man from Modi’in handed over NIS 1 million in cash to police on Sunday, after he found it in a bag on a Jerusalem street. The money was in US dollars. The man said he had been walking down a street in central Jerusalem when he saw a large bag. He looked inside and found hundreds of bills. He waited a while for the owner to return and then took the money home, where he counted it. He then decided to take it to the police.

Police have been trying to track down the owner of the money and also checking to see if the money was stolen.

Police told reporters that if the money is legal and remains unclaimed for 90 days, the finder from Modiin will become its legal owner. Officials noted that if the money is not legal, it is unlikely that the owner will step forward.
