Pakistani officials clarified Monday that the American-born terrorist recently arrested in Karachi was not senior Al-Qaeda propagandist Adam Gadahn. The confusion over the man's identity seems to have stemmed from his identical nom de guerre, Abu Yahya.

The true identity of the man in custody has not yet been confirmed. Pakistani officials said he goes by Abu Yahya Mujahdeed al-Adam, and was involved in commanding Al-Qaeda terrorists in Afghanistan.

Officials said the captive is originally from Pennsylvania. He is fair-skinned and speaks fluent English, they reported.

Adam Gadahn is a United States-born terrorist now known as “Abu Yahya” or “Azzam al-Amriki.” He is a senior Al-Qaeda leader and often features in the organization's propaganda.

Al-Qaeda recently released a video featuring Gadahn in which he called on Muslims living in the West, and particularly those in the U.S., Britain and Israel, to carry out “lone wolf” terrorist attacks.
