A youth club is being built in the Jewish community of Shaarei Tikvah in Samaria (Shomron) – despite the construction freeze.

Dozens of youths and adults took part in the construction of an internet café in the youth club near their home on Wednesday.

The café is part of a youth club for teenagers who are about to enlist in the Israel Defense Forces. It was built in memory of Col. Nabia Marai, the highest-ranking Druze officer ever killed in the line of IDF duty. Serving as Deputy Commander of the Gaza Division, he fell in the September 1996 battles with Gaza terrorists that erupted after Israel opened the Hasmonean/Western Wall Tunnels in the Old City of Jerusalem.

Co-sponsoring the construction were the town’s residents, the Komemiyut organization, and the Shomron Residents Committee.

Shaarei Tikvah, located just a kilometer from the Green Line in western Samaria, was founded in 1983, and is a mixed religious-secular community of some 4,200 people.
