Supreme Court President Dorit Beinisch called upon National Union Chairman MK Yaakov Katz (Ketzaleh) Monday to withdraw the petition to the High Court in which he asked it to instruct the State to reveal the contents of the Shamgar Committee report.

Beinisch's recommendation came after retired Supreme Court judge Shamgar informed the court that the committee has not yet completed its work or written its conclusions.

The committee, known as the “new Shamgar Committee,” has been tasked with recommending a new approach to terror prisoner swaps like the one being negotiated with Hamas. It is scheduled to release its report within weeks.

The court also heard a petition by terror victims' group Almagor calling upon the State to reveal the details of the deal being struck with Hamas.

Rumors and leaks

Attorney Naftali Wurtzberger, who filed MK Katz's petition, told Arutz Sheva Sunday that while it is not known with certainty that the committee has finished its work, “rumors” and “leaks” say that it has. The committee was not charged with recommending action in the specific case of the Shalit abduction, but rather with formulating a general policy with regard to such events.

Wurtzberger said it appears that someone is trying to purposely put off the publication of the committee's findings so that they do not interfere with the controversial Shalit deal.
