An unknown assailant reported to be a Jew stabbed an Arab man in the stomach early Thursday afternoon. The attack occurred on Levi Eshkol Avenue in Ramat Eshkol, in northern Jerusalem, near the Renee Cassin school. The attacker fled the scene.
Magen David Adom crews evacuated the victim, who is 42, to Hadassah Ein Kerem Medical Center, where he is said to be in moderate condition. According to initial reports it was the victim who said that the attacker was Jewish.
Lev HaBira Police Station Chief Lt.-Col. Eli Kedari told reporters that “at 1:10 pm a report of a stabbing at Levi Eshkol street was received; the first squad car dispatched found the injured man with a wound in his stomach in a state of complete consciousness.” He added that “from questioning the victim we learned that the stabber is a young Jewish man with a kippah who escaped towards the Ramat Eshkol neighborhood.” The victim has no record of criminal or security-related offenses, he said.
The reason for the stabbing is unknown and a large police force has begun combing the area with the aid of a helicopter in the hope of locating the suspect.
Last Friday, an 18 year old terrorist tried to stab an IDF soldier at the Mughrabi Gate to the Old City of Jerusalem. The soldier managed to fight off the assailant who was then arrested. No one was hurt.
