Over 950 new immigrants arrived in Israel this week, more than 80% of them from the former Soviet Union and eastern Europe. Several dozen arrived from Ethiopia, as did an average of two families from each of France, Italy, England, Australia, Argentina, Uruguay, the United States, Canada and India. Over 37,700 new immigrants have arrived in Israel since the beginning of the year; some 70% are from the former Soviet Union, and Yediot Acharonot reports that a random check showed that some 70% of *them* were not Jewish.
