Prime Minister Ariel Sharon plans to ask U.S. President George Bush to pardon Jonathan Pollard. Sharon said this morning that he would make the request during his visit to Washington ten days from now. Pollard is now into his 17th year of a life sentence in the U.S. for spying for Israel - a crime whose average punishment has been 2-4 years. He spent close to seven years in solitary confinement, is currently ill, and says he feels abandoned by successive Israeli governments. \"Without the information that Pollard brought us,\" MK Michael Kleiner told the Knesset this week, \"information that did not endanger the United States, Israel would not have been even minimally ready for an unconventional-weapon attack against it.\"
