Two crews from the Interior Ministry's Oz  unit prevented a violent mugging attack perpetrated by three Sudanese citizens against a Nepali citizen in Tel Aviv Tuesday.

Oz unit teams patrolled the Levinsky Park  area when they heard shouts for help from a nearby street. The crews ran in the direction of the shouts and found three Sudanese citizens in the act of attacking and mugging a Nepali citizen. They had taken his cellular phone and were trying to take his money and passport as well.

The alerted the police and a squad car arrived on the scene. Police arrested the three suspected muggers.

The Interior Ministry said that this was the second time this week in which Oz inspectors aided foreign workers who had been attacked by other foreign migrants. A few days ago, another Oz crew assisted a Nepali citizen who was found beaten in a southern Tel Aviv street. He said he had been mugged by four Sudanese.

Yehudah Ben Ezra, the Acting Commander of the Oz Unit, said he viewed these cases gravely. “I can only hope that  these are isolated incidents and not a recurrent phenomenon. In any case, we will act in the matter with the tools that the law gives us.”
