The Gilad Shalit situation and the joyous Torah-study Hoshana Rabba holiday converge Thursday in central Jerusalem for a night of study and melody.
The event will take place beginning at 6 PM Thursday until 1:30 AM, at the Bereaved Parents’ hut that stands outside Moment Cafe opposite the Prime Minister’s Residence and the Kings Hotel. Organized by the Almagor Terror Victims Association, it memorializes the fallen soldiers of the Yom Kippur War and commemorates the Sukkot holiday of Hoshana Rabba.
A panel discussion will be held on the Halakhic [Jewish legal] and security aspects of the release of terrorists and the importance of redeeming captives. The issue is very relevant, in that the Hamas terror organization is pressuring Israel’s government to release 1,000 murderers and other terrorists in exchange for IDF soldier Gilad Shalit, who has been held for over three years.
In addition to Hassidic soul music accompanying the event, IDF officers and soldiers will tell of miracles and self-sacrifice in the Yom Kippur War battles of 36 years ago.
Among the speakers: Brig.-Gen. (res.) Amatzia Chen, commando unit commander in the Yom Kippur War; Lt.-Col. (res.) Meir Indor on the Wandering Warriors; Boaz HaEtzni on “The Shalit Exchange as an Existential Test”; Rabbi Moshe Hager, chairman of the Pre-Military Academies; Dr. Aryeh Bachrach; Capt. (res.) Dr. Hagi Ben-Artzi; and Rabbi Uri Dasberg, who, with his wife, is raising his two grandchildren whose parents were murdered in a terrorist attack 15 years ago.
