Representatives of the Bnei Akiva movement in New Zealand gathered to present a video explaining what Rosh HaShanah means to them and to the nation.
Among the footage from their activities in Aukland is film taken during a special prayer session in the morning in which schoolchildren learned some things about Rosh Hashana. Netanel Posner, a Bnei Akiva emissary (Shaliach) to Auckland also told IsraelNN TV about other activities.
“We will have a youth prayer gathering parallel to the regular prayers in synagogue, after the prayers ends we’ll have a lunch for the kids and an educational activity that will hopefully give them lots of knowledge about the festival of Rosh Hashana while they are having fun,” he said.
“Another great thing that Bnei Akiva is doing here,” said Posner, “is publishing a special Torah insights booklet, written by the Bnei Akiva emissaries and counselors. The Torah insights are mainly based on the personal experience of the emissaries and counselors themselves.”
Like in all their branches throughout the globe, World Bnei Akiva plans to offer many more programs during the coming weeks regarding all the upcoming Jewish festivals.
Posner explains: “This month we’ll be selling Sukkot (the ritual temporary struicures built for the festival of Sukkot), and then visiting the Sukkot of the community during the festival. We will of course have lots of dancing and educational activities during the festival of Simchat Torah”.
Posner added that his group will return to business as usual -- "continuing with our regular programs for the kids, getting them closer to Judaism and making them proud being Jews” -- after the holidays are over.
