A Lebanese military court has sentenced a man to life in prison for spying for Israel, according to the Associated Press. The man was convicted of working on Israel's behalf against Hizbullah. Faisal Maklad was also convicted of traveling to Israel, which is forbidden under Lebanese law, and using forged documents.

He has the legal right to appeal Saturday's verdict, but it is not clear whether he actually can, or will do so.

The conviction was the first in a campaign against alleged an Israeli spy network in southern Lebanon. Dozens of Lebanese citizens have been arrested in the campaign, which began in April of this year.

Several of those accused of spying are senior officers in the Lebanese army. At least one suspect was arrested by Hizbullah, and later turned over to Lebanese authorities.

Most of those currently under arrest are accused of spying against Hizbullah, which has called on the Lebanese government to sentence to death anyone convicted of spying for Israel.
