Israeli Air Force planes attacked during the pre-dawn hours of Sunday two tunnels used for smuggling in southern Gaza. An IDF spokesperson stated that the strike made a direct hit. However, it is unknown whether there were casualties. The strike came in response to the firing of a Kassam rocket on Saturday night.

Gaza Arab terrorists fired  a Kassam rocket around 10:30 p.m. Saturday that apparently exploded in an open area near one of the communities within the Sdot Negev regional council. There were no reports of injuries or damage.

The missile attack was the first in nearly four weeks.

Just two weeks ago, Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) head Yuval Diskin said that Hamas had been trying to prevent further rocket attacks on Israel, at least temporarily. "Hamas has stopped firing rockets for now, but at the same time they are building up their strength in Gaza and are working to extend the range of the rockets, both by improving the rockets they build and smuggling advanced equipment through smuggling tunnels" from Sinai into Gaza, he said.
