As the Jewish community outpost of Nahalat Yosef near Elon Moreh in northern Samaria is destroyed by Israeli security forces on Monday, the Women in Green organization is encouraging Jews to help thwart the demolition of more Jewish outposts by participating in upcoming tours and protests.
On Tuesday, June 2, Women in Green has organized an outpost tour, which will bring supporters to Mitzpe Avigail in the North Hebron Hills, Chazon David, the Federman Farm and Mitzpe Avichai in Kiryat Arba, and Maaleh Rechavam in Gush Etzion.
At Maaleh Rehavam, participants will be joined by rabbis and Knesset members to plant trees. Rabbi Uzi Sharbaf and right-wing legal defender Elyakim Haetzni are scheduled to be joined by Member of Knesset Michael Ben Ari. However, Ben Ari was arrested Monday for blocking a police jeep which contained two possibly injured young Jewish protesters being sent for arrest during protests at the Yitzhar junction.
We are not uprooting, we are planting
"The tree planting event at Maaleh Rehavam is meant to show that we are not planning on evacuating or leaving Jewish outposts," said Nadia Matar, co-founder of Women in Green. "We are not uprooting, we are planting."
The next day, Wednesday, June 3, Women in Green has organized a protest targeting US President Barack Hussein Obama's latest pressure against Israel to conform to its demand for settlement freezes in Judea and Samaria. Obama is scheduled to arrive the same day in Riyadh for talks with Saudi King Abdullah, before heading to Cairo to deliver a major policy speech to the Muslim world, scheduled for Thursday.
Entitled "Obama, No You Can't," the rally will take place at 6pm in front of the U.S. Consulate on Jerusalem's Agron Street. Posters circulated by Women in Green tell Obama "you can't get the Muslim world to stop hating America by selling out the Jews, "You can't take the Land of the Bible away from the People of the Bible," and other slogans.
The list of participants in the Wednesday protest includes Druze Likud MK Ayoub Kara, former Russian refusenik and Prisoner of Zion Yosef Mendelovich, and wife of Jonathan Pollard, Esther Pollard.
