The IDF dropped warning leaflets into Gaza towns and cities Monday morning, warning residents to beware of coming too close to the security barrier that separates the region from the rest of Israel.

The general public was told in the Arabic-language flyers to maintain a minimum distance of at least 300 meters from the security fence or risk getting shot.

"IDF forces will operate against all those who approach the fence, due to the threat that they post to the civilians of the State of Israel," explained the army spokesman in a statement released to the media.

The move comes in response to a spate of incidents in which terrorists attacked soldiers in various locations near the barrier.

Last Friday, two armed gunmen were spotted as they approached the security fence north of the Kerem Shalom Crossing in an attempt to plant explosive devices.

An IDF force crossed the fence and fired at the gunmen, who also began shooting and were killed in the firefight. Soldiers who searched their bodies later discovered an explosive device, two AK-47 rifles, hand grenades and military vests.

Later that same day, terrorists detonated an explosive device against an IDF force near the fence in northern Gaza, in the Nahal Oz area.

Last week, on May 18th, Gaza terrorists detonated two explosive devices against IDF soldiers patrolling on the Israeli side of the security fence in northern Gaza. There was no damage and no casualties were reported.
