The Media Criticism Prize, granted by Israel Media Watch, was awarded last night in Jerusalem to journalists Amnon Lord and Amnon Dankner. The two come from opposite sides of the political spectrum. Former Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, who addressed the gathering, called for the opening of a free media market in Israel, and to allow stations such as Arutz-7 to broadcast freely. The Knesset passed a law in February 1999 formally licensing Arutz-7, but it was frozen by the Supreme Court following appeals by Labor MK Eitan Cabel and Meretz MKs Yossi Sarid and Chaim Oron.
