A new demographic issue is being fought in Israel's Supreme Court. Arab and leftist groups have petitioned the court to allow Arabs from foreign nations, including Saudi Arabia – a declared enemy -- to acquire Israeli citizenship upon their marriage to a local Arab.

The Im Tirzu student organization took to the streets to protest the proposal, calling upon the court to leave the status quo intact. A 2003 decision by the Knesset currently bars Arabs with foreign citizenship from becoming Israeli citizens when they marry Israeli Arabs.
