Terrorists fired from Gaza towards Israeli civilians in the Negev throughout Wednesday

Arab terrorists fired a Kassam rocket towards the Negev around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday. The rocket exploded in a kibbutz (agricultural settlement) within the Sha’ar Hanegev region. There were no injuries or damage caused.

Earlier Wednesday evening, one Kassam rocket exploded in an open area of the Eshkol region. There were no injuries or damage caused.

Shortly after the rocket explosion, a mortar shell was fired, making a direct hit on a factory building near a chicken coop on a kibbutz within the Sha’ar Hanegev region. The shell narrowly missed a gas tank.

There were no injuries, but damage was caused. Kibbutz residents noted that the Color Red advance warning system did not operate. According to some reports in the media, the kibbutz explosion was not caused by a mortar shell but by a Kassam rocket.

Earlier Wednesday morning, two rockets exploded in open areas within the Eshkol region. There were no injuries or damage caused. However, the ongoing rocket fire has raised the anger among southern residents.

Eshkol regional council head, Haim Yellin, told Yediot Acharonot’s internet edition, “It’s true that we’re not experiencing the same number of rockets that were during Operation ‘Cast Lead,’ and the quantity that we were acquainted with, but does the amount really matter?”

He continued, “A sovereign country must not allow one from firing toward it. The Israeli government is hiding from what is happening here. It seems that the Iranian centrifuges are more important that what has been happening by us during the [past] eight years.”

Hamas continues to fire rockets at Sderot and environs, despite the IDF’s Operation Cast Lead that ended two months ago. At least 15 Kassams and shells have been fired at the Negev over the past week, including one that caused damage to a synagogue in Netivot. The Color Red siren thus continues to sound periodically, giving residents of all ages 15 seconds’ warning to run to the nearest shelter.
