The IDF and Israel Police have tightened security nationwide following a terrorist attack in Jerusalem on Thursday. Security was already tight due to the upcoming holiday of Purim, which will occur next week.

Security forces go on high alert prior to Jewish holidays due to terrorists groups' tendency to attempt attacks specifically on those days.

Officers will be stationed in crowded public areas throughout the country, particularly at Purim parades. Many synagogues and other buildings in which the Megillah (Scroll of Esther) is read will be guarded as well.

In addition, IDF soldiers and Border Guard police officers will set up temporary checkpoints along roads leading from Palestinian Authority-controlled areas to major Israeli cities. Area lying between PA-controlled cities and Israeli towns will be patrolled more frequently.

The increase in manpower and activity will reach a peak on Purim, after which security forces are expected to return to their usual levels of alert.
