As if the Jewish residents of Gush Katif, in south-western Israel, didn\'t have enough to worry about, the government is now planning to \"help\" them by diverting their cars to a narrow bridge to be built above the existing road. Land preparation is already underway for the construction of what some residents call a \"ridiculous\" bridge above the main Kisufim (Mor) leading to Gush Katif. Anita Tucker of Netzer Hazani says,
\"The Prime Minister\'s plan is that on this very road, on which the best of our friends were murdered in cold blood by Arabs a year ago, Arabs will now travel freely, while the Jews will be forced to travel meters above it... Both security and construction experts have declared that the bridge is neither safe nor secure for the Jews who are to travel on it, and will be an easy target for Arab bullets and bombs. Today this road, the only one out of Gush Katif, is relatively safe for us to travel, as the IDF does what is necessary to protect the Jews on the road... It is also very narrow, and only one bus or truck will be able to pass at a time...\" The Gaza Coast Regional Council is officially against the plan, and at a town meeting last night, the citizens resolved \"never to agree to travel\" on the bridge, and to demand that the Prime Minister not implement the plan. The residents have begun a public campaign of protest against the idea.
