Israel's friendship and cooperation with the United States will continue with President Barack Obama in office, says former Ambassador to the U.S. Danny Ayalon. Obama is “pragmatic” and will respect Israel and America's shared interests, Ayalon explains.

Despite the strong relationship, Israel must be prepared to stay strong in the face of U.S. pressure, Ayalon says. Israeli leaders must state their principles from the beginning, he says, “It is better to state your position and not be wishy-washy about it. You will gain much more respect, and there will not be surprises.”
Ayalon believes his own Yisrael Beiteinu (Israel is Our Home) party is prepared to face international pressure. “We always stood our ground and we believe that national strength comes also from deep convictions and also from national respect,” he adds.
