On the last day of Gaza warfare before Israel’s unilaterally-declared ceasefire, Israeli planes bombed 100+ tunnels along the Egypt-Gaza border.

It is estimated that some 400 tunnels were operative before the just-ended Operation Cast Lead began three weeks ago, and that close to 300 have been destroyed since then.  The tunnels served to smuggle into Gaza warfare experts, money, terrorists, arms, explosives, and more.

In one encounter during the day’s fighting, IDF forces in northern Gaza found two armed terrorists hiding in a house. An IDF tank fired at the building, and the terrorists were hit.  The forces then entered the building, finding there large quantities of war materiel, including explosives vests, bombs, grenades, and more. The IDF then detonated the building.

In two other incidents nearby, terrorists who fired at IDF forces and squads equipped with anti-tank rockets were found in houses and similarly hit.

Other targets hit on the last day of pre-ceasefire fighting included ten rocket launching sites, five terrorist cells and at least three Hamas outposts.
