As part of the preparations for the upcoming elections, the National Union representatives came to visit Kfar Chabad Thursday to meet the local leaders. The question hanging in the air is: Will the powerful and influential Chabad movement formally endorse the National Union?

NU leader Yaakov “Ketzaleh” Katz showed the Chabad rabbis a picture of himself with the late Lubavitcher Rebbe and told them of how happy the Rebbe always was to hear of advances in the settling of Judea, Samaria and Gaza. Ketzaleh was a special aide to then-Housing Minister Ariel Sharon in the early 1990s.

The Rebbe instructed his followers to always vote for a hareidi party running for Knesset – but the word 'hareidi' can be interpreted in different ways. One of the participants explained it thus: “The Rebbe always emphasized three elements: the wholeness of the land, the nation and the Torah. When the Rebbe mentioned a hareidi party he didn’t restrict it to specific issues. When these three aspects are unified -- that is the most hareidi party and every Chabadnik must support it.”
