The Color Red incoming missile alert siren blared a warning of an impending attack to residents of the Sha'ar HaNegev Regional Council district Wednesday afternoon.
Seconds later, two Kassam rockets slammed into the area, both exploding in open areas. No one was injured and no damage was reported.
The Islamic Jihad terrorist organization's Al Quds military brigade announced it was taking responsibility for launching the attack from northern Gaza. A statement issued by the group claimed the attack came in response to "the Israeli escalation of violence and the breach of the ceasefire agreement."
A spate of rocket and mortar attacks was also launched against the western Negev Wednesday morning.
As usual, the first attack was launched as children were preparing to leave for school and parents were getting ready for work. The mortar shell, which was fired from northern Gaza, exploded near a kibbutz just before 7:30 a.m.
Three mortar attacks followed less than two hours later, also fired from northern Gaza and striking open areas in the Eshkol Regional Council district. No injuries or incidents of damage were reported in the attacks.
In the late morning hours, Gaza terrorists fired a third round of mortar shells and one Kassam rocket at the Sdot Negev and Eshkol regions.
The Popular Resistance Committees terrorist group's Salah a-Din Brigades military division claimed responsibility for the attacks. No one was injured, but a power line was damaged by one of the shells.
There has been no response by IDF forces to the attacks.
