A carbomb in the Machpelah Cave in Hevron? Almost. The GSS reported today that it apprehended, three weeks ago, a Tanzim terrorist cell from the Southern Hevron Hills that had planned to detonate just such a bomb at the holy site. The car was to be disguised as a UN vehicle, for which the group had already begun making false UN license plates. The terrorists were also involved in finding potential suicide killers for attacks in Kiryat Arba, Efrat, Jerusalem, and elsewhere. Hevron spokesman Noam Arnon released a statement this afternoon, saying that this proved how right the Jewish community was in not agreeing to allow international observers to come close to the Machpelah Cave.
In a related matter, the Hevron Jewish Community has publicized a list of some 30 violent incidents perpetrated by the agents of Jibril Rajoub in the past four weeks. Rajoub, the PA\'s Preventive Security chief, received control of the Abu Sneineh and Haret a-Sheikh last month, promising to take responsibility that all shooting on the Jewish neighborhoods below, and elsewhere in the vicinity, would cease. Prime Minister Sharon told the cabinet at the time that Rajoub promised that if there is \"even one shot,\" he, Rajoub, would agree to the IDF\'s return to the hills. In actuality, however, the list shows that starting on Oct. 15, with a shooting at two Israeli cars on the Halhoul bypass road, and continuing on Oct. 19 with shooting at the Jewish neighborhoods, it was downhill all the way: Incidents on the 21st and 22nd, three on the 25th, nine more October shootings or bombings, and at least 13 more in November.
