Four families across Israel agreed to donate the organs of their deceased loved ones, and 13 lives were saved by 15 organ-transplant operations in one day.  The operations took place in seven different hospitals.

One of the donors, soldier Amit Benaim, signed his Adi organ donor card just a month ago – and his organs were used to save five lives after he died of wounds he suffered in a motorcycle accident.

Another donor was Mahmad Yusuf, 15, who was killed in a car accident last week.

Among the transplant operations was the placing of a liver in a 12-year-old girl who had been waiting for the organ for a year.  In the same hospital, Shneiders Children’s Hospital in Petach Tikvah, a 3-year-old girl received a kidney.

In Beilinson Hospital, a 55-year-old woman from Shoham suffering from cystic fibrosis received two lungs.  She had been attached to a respirator for a year and “her condition was deteriorating from day to day,” her husband said.
