Parents in Ashkelon decided to keep their children home from school until 10:00 a.m. Friday morning to protest the government's handling of the rocket attacks on the city by Gaza terrorists.
By 7:00 a.m. Friday morning, Gaza terrorists had already fired five rockets at Gaza Belt communities. All of the missiles exploded in open areas, three in the region of Nahal Oz and two near a kibbutz in the area of Sderot. No one was injured in any of the attacks.
Patrols have been beefed up in all of the relevant areas and Gaza Belt communities are on high alert, but all are sending their children to school.
The Islamic Jihad's al-Quds Brigades unit claimed responsibility for the barrage.
The Color Red incoming rocket alert system was activated yesterday in Ashkelon following an earlier attack on the western Negev city of Sderot. Residents did not hear an explosion following the siren, and at first it was assumed it had activated in error. Later, however, an unexploded rocket was found in an open field on the outskirts of the city.
Two Kassam rockets were fired at the western Negev late Thursday night as well; both struck open areas near a kibbutz in the Sdot Negev area. No one was injured and no damage was reported in the attack.
Gaza terrorists have fired more than 60 Kassam rockets and mortars at Israeli Gaza Belt communities since Tuesday night, when IDF troops entered central Gaza to destroy a kidnappers’ tunnel that had been dug only 250 meters from the security barrier.
