A special evening of spirituality uplifted a massive crowd of Jews at Selichot services at the Cave of the Patriarchs in the Judean city of Hevron this week in preparation for the solemn Day of Atonement.

Tours of Hevron, one of the four Holy Cities in Israel, were followed by late-night Torah classes taught by leading rabbinical figures. The evening culminated in the Selichot prayer ceremony, held in Hevron and initiated by Israel's former Chief Rabbi Mordechai Eliyahu, currently hospitalized in ShaareiTzedekMedicalCenter in Jerusalem. Prayers were also offered for his health and full recovery.

In Jerusalem, the Old City was packed two days before Yom Kippur with children and their parents who came to take part in a special event held by the MiBereshit organization, which scattered activity stands and workshops throughout the area.

After the activities the crowd participated in a special unified-version of the Selichot ceremony sponsored by the organization, which was founded six years ago by Rabbi Mordechai Elon to connect people to Torah.

Elsewhere in the capital, Yeshivat Machon Meir held a conference dubbed "Repentance Out of Love," an event which is in its ninth year.
