
Bank of Israel Governor Dr. Stanley Fischer will head a delegation of Israeli bankers to the annual meeting of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington D.C. next week, according to the Globes business news service. Dr. Fischer, a former deputy managing director of the IMF, will deliver a speech to one of the forums at the event.
The IMF and the World Bank are set to hold their annual meetings from October 11 to October 13. The main seminar, discussing the current global financial crisis, is scheduled for October 12. Fischer will address the Per Jacobsson Foundation Forum on that day.
Financial Times associate editor Martin Wolf will moderate the main session, which will feature first-Vice President of the U.S. Federal Reserve Christine Cummings, among other highly respected economists. Chairman of the Soros Fund, George Soros, will also participate. Soros strongly opposes the United States government's $700 billion fiscal bailout plan.
Israel's Finance Ministry will send General Accountant Shuki Oren this year. Finance Minister Ronnie Bar-On will not attend.
