In the Jerusalem encampment, friends and family came together to support the hunger strike of the Jewish prisoner Ofer Gamliel. Gamliel has been hunger striking for the past two weeks because of the conditions in the prison. The Prison Authority decided to come down hard in response, moving Gamliel. Atty. Naftali Wertzberger told IsraelNN TV: “The response was to transfer Gamliel to a Beer Sheva prison. They are trampling all the rights that he still has to create a difficult situation for Gamliel and his family.”

Despite the tough response of the Prison Authority, Gamliel has not stopped his hunger strike. Meanwhile, the public struggle continues at the protest tent near Mercaz HaRav yeshiva in Jerusalem. “The main complaint is about the harassment by prison service and Israel’s General Security Service (Shabak) against all the Jewish prisoners who are sitting in jail for nationalist crimes.” explained Wertzberger, “There is harsh discrimination against them. They don’t receive holidays [unlike their Arab counterparts - ed.]. Their conditions are very hard. The worst criminals don’t have it so bad.”
