Starting Saturday night Sept. 20, the residents of the Mitzpei Yishai neighborhood in the Shomron community of Kedumim, have been focused on one issue: saving the life of Gili Ressler, a newborn girl in town. Six-week-old Gili was born with one lung and a constricted esophagus. The doctors despaired, but the family refused to give up and found out that in London and Chicago there are medical institutions who have dealt successfully with this rare disorder.
The family and all the neighbors in Mitzpei Yishai decided to band together to get the needed funds for an operation in London.
The volunteers were briefed, lists of telephone numbers were compiled, and an improvised war room was created near the local synagogue. What is significant about this specific fundraising operation is that it was held voluntarily by friends and family members. There was no organization involved, so each and every shekel went directly to the cause.
The necessary funds were raised for Gili's life-saving operation, and the father, Amichai, departed Sunday with Gili for London. With the consent of Rabbis, the operation will be held on Tuesday, Rosh HaShana. Gili's parents and the whole Kedumim community express their heartfelt thanks to all who contributed. They ask the public to pray for the health of their child, Gili Haya Tzviya Tova bat Ravit.
