Noam Shalit, father of kinapped IDF soldier Gilad Shalit, recently sent a letter to Israeli government ministers. Shalit demanded that Israel refrain from transferring money to the Hamas terrorist organization until his son is returned. “My lawyers issued a letter to the cabinet members,” Shalit explained to IsraelNN TV’s Eliot Coe, “asking why Israel is transferring cash to the Gaza strip? It’s not understandable why Israel supports the Hamas regime in the Gaza Strip... providing the Hamas members salaries and so on.”
In the above video, Coordinator of Government Operations in the Territories Major General Amos Gilad responds to the Shalit letter saying that the 50 million shekels are Palestinian Authority funds relayed from the West Bank to the Gaza Strip banking system, in order to prevent its collapse. Gilad states that the amount of money transferred was much less than what was planned initially.
