A Civil Guard volunteer shot towards an Arab whom he perceived as threatening and endangering citizens with his tractor. The incident occurred outside the city of Modiin, at the Shilat Junction, on Tuesday afternoon.
Twice in the course of the month of July, Arab tractor drivers from eastern Jerusalem committed terrorist attacks by rampaging on Jerusalem streets. Three people were murdered in the first attack, and 18 were wounded in the second one.
In the Modiin incident, the Civil Guard volunteer shot at the tires of the tractor after the driver began driving wildly on the street and raising his shovel. The Arab tried to evade police, and even aimed his vehicle at the guard, who said he "felt threatened." The guard shot at the tires, and the driver was arrested. The possible terrorist was taken to the Modiin Police for questioning.
The police found that the Arab, a resident of a Palestinian Authority-controlled area, was in Israel without a permit. He explained his wild tractor driving by saying he feared he would be arrested and his tractor confiscated. This is why he tried to escape towards Samaria, the Arab said.
It was originally suspected that the tractor was stolen, but this has apparently been proven false.
