Dimona, south of Be\'er Sheva, has become the most unemployed Jewish city in Israel. Hundreds of city residents, led by Mayor Gabi Lalush, demonstrated this morning and closed off the main entrance to Dimona in protest of the deteriorating economic situation. Although the protest was a peaceful one, the Dimona Municipality notes that this was just the \"opening salvo\" of what may become a long struggle. Industry in general Israel is in difficult straits. Output was down by 2% in the months of July and August, and 5,000 workers were laid off during this period. Economists in the Manufacturers Association estimate that the recession will continue in the coming months.
