Sunday marks the annual Jewish fast day, the 17th of Tammuz. The day commemorates the breaching of Jerusalem's walls by the Roman Emperor Titus, which led to the destruction of the holy temple in 70 CE. Other calamities which befell the Jewish nation on this day are also lamented.
