The show, hosted by Israel National Radio’s Ari Abramowitz and Jeremy Gimpel, featured Rabbi Shlomo Riskin of Efrat as guest. After speaking about the joys and difficulties of his decision to leave the pulpit of New York City’s Lincoln Square Synagogue to establish the community of Efrat near Bethlehem, he took a question from the crowd:
“Would you advise American rabbis to dismantle their communities and encourage their congregants to move to Israel?” an audience member asked.
“That is like asking whether rabbis should advise their congregations to eat kosher or keep the Sabbath or not. Living in Israel is a Torah commandment no less than those. Sometimes I think that if living in Israel were a chumra (stringency) like wearing a black hat, all of Brooklyn would move here. But it's only a mitzvah (commandment)!" said Riskin to cheers from the audience of both immigrants and Jewish tourists.
This week’s show, being recorded before a live studio audience Tuesday night in Jerusalem, of course, features Rabbi Yom-Tov Glazer as a guest. Glazer was a renowned surfer from California until he found his way to Israel and into the chassidic communities of Jerusalem’s Mea Shearim, where he now lives with his family.
Gimpel and Abramowitz, along with Arutz-7 Station Manager Baruch Gordon spoke about the success of the first two Tuesday Night Live shows during the weekly Light Unto the Nations radio show this week. Click here to listen.
“Tuesday Night Live in Jerusalem is a televised Jewish revival in the heart of Jerusalem,” Gimpel and Abramowitz say. “Featuring an inspiring Torah class and live Jewish music, this vehicle offers anyone around the world the opportunity of plugging into the soul of Jerusalem and experiencing a celebration of Israel and Judaism at its finest.
“The event is open to locals, tourists, students, and people of all backgrounds who are looking for a chance to learn from us on a weekly basis and get a true taste of authentic Torah in the Holy Land. We are confident that Tuesday Night Live will quickly become the most popular weekly gathering in all of Jerusalem.”
