Israel has sent emergency equipment to Mexico and the Dominican Republic in the aftermath of tropical storm Noel, which caused extensive damage in the two countries.
Tropical storm Noel caused flooding, mudslides and power failures last week in the Dominican Republic, resulting in 60 deaths and extensive damage to property – leaving tens of thousands homeless.
The storm went on to hit Mexico, creating severe damage in the state of Tabasco and leaving 20,000 residents trapped on their rooftops. More than a million people fled their homes.
Israel sent $20,000 in emergency equipment to the two countries, “Based on feelings of friendship and solidarity, and out of a desire to contribute its share to the international aid extended to the storm's victims,” the Foreign Ministry explained.
The equipment will be presented to local representatives by the Israeli ambassador to each country.
