IDF soldiers shot and killed an armed Fatah terrorist in a shootout in Shechem’s Casbah open-air market Wednesday morning. A second terrorist was seriously wounded.
The terrorist killed was Amr Ein-Abousi, a member of Fatah’s Al-Aksa Brigades terrorist group. The group's local leader Sufiyan Kandeel was reportedly seriously injured. The men were part of the amnesty deal reached between Fatah chief Mahmoud Abbas and Prime Minister Ehud Olmert. Al-Aksa Brigades' spokesman said that the men had not agreed to all of the conditions of the deal.
Palestinian Authority reports claim an IDF undercover commando unit dressed as PA security forces entered the area and climbed to the rooftops in order to ambush the terrorists. Local reports initially said Fatah’s PA police force, which includes many members of local terrorist groups, joined in the gun battle against IDF troops.
The IDF has not yet issued a statement on the incident. There is a possibility that the incident was actually a PA attack on Kandeel.
Elsewhere in Judea and Samaria, IDF units arrested 19 wanted terrorists Tuesday night. They were handed over to security forces for investigation. Eight of the terrorists were arrested in villages near Ramallah, five in Kalkilya, three in Bethlehem, two in Hevron and one in Jericho.
