Margalit Har-Shefi is scheduled to enter prison tomorrow - and Rabbi Mordechai Eliyahu, Israel\'s former Chief Sephardic Rabbi, has called on the public to accompany her on her way. Rabbi Eliyahu said that only G-d can read the thoughts of others, and that Margalit Har-Shefi has not reached the state where she could have known what Yigal Amir was planning.
\"To our great sorrow,\" said Rabbi Eliyahu in a statement on Arutz-7, \"the precious and blessed young woman Margalit Har-Shefi has been sentenced to sit in jail, on a strange charge. In this connection, we recite in our Rosh HaShanah prayers, \'For Thou knowest every man\'s plans, and all his designs and thoughts, etc.\' It is clear that Margalit Har-Shefi has not reached this level, and that there is no one on earth who can reach this level, which is exclusive to the Holy One Blessed be He. It is therefore a great mitzvah [commandment] to strengthen and encourage her, and to accompany her to her prison cell tomorrow. May all her prayers be answered, for blessing and happiness…\"
Women in Green and local residents will accompany Margalit from her home in Beit El at 10 AM tomorrow to her prison in N\'vei Tirtzah, Ramle. They still hope, however, that President Moshe Katzav and Justice Minister Meir Shetreet will act on the pardon requests that they have received. Katzav said today that he would not be swayed by public opinion, and Shetreet said that he would neither hurry nor delay his action on the request.
