Gaza town of Khan Yunis, Palestinian Authority terrorists continue mortar and rocket attacks on Jewish civilian and military targets.

Tuesday night, IDF forces began withdrawing from Khan Yunis after almost 24 hours of operations in the area. More than 120 arrests were made, 11 or 12 Hamas and Islamic Jihad members were killed and scores injured in clashes throughout the day. One IDF soldier was lightly wounded during a gun battle with Hamas terrorists on Tuesday afternoon.

IDF operations in the Khan Yunis area included combined air power and ground troops, with at least five enemy combatants killed in a single air strike. Commenting on the capabilities of jihadist forces which the army encountered in Gaza, IDF officials said that Hamas is using much more advanced weaponry and is emulating the tactics used by Hizbullah in southern Lebanon last summer.

The return of IDF forces to the Khan Yunis area came exactly two years after the government and military officers vowed that Israel never again would enter the area following the expulsion of Jewish residents and the surrender of the land to the PA. Khan Yunis is adjacent to the former Gush Katif town of N'vei Dekalim, demolished during the 2005 Disengagement.

PA terrorists launched five Kassam rockets towards Jewish towns.

Simultaneous with the conclusion of the Khan Yunis operation and the withdrawing of IDF troops, PA terrorists launched seven attacks from within Gaza on Israelis outside the area. The PA barrages led to no reported injuries or damage.

In an initial attack Tuesday night, enemy forces fired two mortar shells toward unidentified Israeli targets. The shells fell short and landed near the Gaza perimeter security fence. The mortars were fired from within Gaza City.

Later Tuesday night, PA terrorists launched five Kassam rockets towards Jewish towns in the western Negev. Three landed in the area of the Kissufim Crossing, linking Gaza with the Negev, and two landed near Kibbutz Sufa.
