Terrorists late Friday afternoon fired at soldiers in the area of the Arab village of Dura el-Kara, north of Beit El, in the Benjamin Regional Council district of the Shomron. Sergeant Roz Mintz, 19, of Liryat Motzkin, was killed. A second soldier was moderately wounded. Three Duchifat soldiers were manning a checkpoint on the road when terrorist opened fire from a moving vehicle. The terrorists were not apprehended. The third soldier escaped injuries.

Mintz was struck in the head by the gunfire and critically wounded. He died of his injuries a short time later. The moderately wounded soldier was transported to the trauma unit of Jerusalem’s Hadassah Hospital.

Yoav Mintz, Roz’s father, who is employed as a journalist, explains that he routinely reports of soldiers being killed and wounded. “Now I feel this is a live broadcast” he explained.

“He was a gift from heaven for 19 years and 7 months. Optimism, humor, humility, a youth who loved his country, his family and his brother,” added Mr. Mintz.

Sergeant Mintz will be laid to rest on Sunday. Details to be announced when funeral arrangements are certain.
