Rabbi Baruch Kahane, son of Rabbi Meir Kahane, petitioned the Jerusalem District Court this morning against the police decision to ban a memorial ceremony for his father. Rabbi Meir Kahane was murdered 11 years ago in New York; an Arab resident of New Jersey was acquitted of the murder, although he was sentenced to several years in jail for holding an illegal weapon and shooting a guard.

The memorial ceremony is scheduled for Sunday night in Jerusalem, and public figures and some Knesset Members were invited to participate. The police claim that the ceremony itself would represent support for an illegal terrorist organization. Rabbi Meir Kahane\'s other son, Binyamin, was murdered together with his wife Talya by Palestinian terrorists while driving near Ofrah ten months ago. The family announced that it would conduct the memorial in any event.

Another suit was submitted this morning, by Yitzchak Pass and Noam Federman, against the police decision to prevent them from demonstrating at Yitzchak Rabin\'s gravesite on Sunday. The two say that the police approved their demonstration two days ago, and rescinded the approval solely because of left-wing pressure.
