The Israeli Air Force attacked the home of a senior Hamas politician Sunday night, according to initial reports. The man – Halil El-Haya, a member of the Palestinian Authority's parliament, was injured, but not seriously. Other reports say he was not harmed at all, and had not been at home. Eight people were killed in the attack, including at least three who are reportedly family members of El-Haya.
The attack occurred in the Sejaeeyeh neighborhood in Gaza city. In the past, El Haya had been the head of Hamas's parliamentary faction.
An IDF source confirmed Sunday night that an attack had taken place but denied that El-Haya's home was targeted. They said a squad of five armed men had been the target, and that the men were hit. The IDF source said he was not familiar with the report regarding El-Haya's home.
In addition, Arab sources in Gaza said that the IAF struck a squad of terrorists armed with rockets Sunday but missed it and hit an innocent bystander, causing him moderately serious wounds.
In a separate incident, the Associated Press reported Sunday that an IDF tank fired a shell at a

squad of Kassam launchers in northern Gaza. No one was hurt, according to the report.
The IDF said in response to inquiries that after the identification of two Kassam rocket launches in northern Gaza, an IDF tank fired a shell at the source of the rocket fire. No details of enemy casualties are available, said the army. In addition, the IAF carried out another attack in northern Gaza at around 9 p.m.
The IAF also carried out several counter terrorist operations in Gaza early Sunday morning. In one attack, three terrorists were killed in the Zeitoun neighborhood of Gaza. The IDF said the terrorists were Hamas members who had been involved in producing Kassam rockets and firing them at Israel. Three additional attacks destroyed workshops for munitions production.
Sami Abu-Zuheri, a Hamas spokesman in Gaza, said Sunday evening that the Israeli cabinet's decision to escalate the offensive against the terrorist organization "reflected the enemy's fear of the Kassam rockets."
