The Tel Aviv Stock Exchange (TASE) continues to climb beyond its record 1,000 points reached earlier this month.
The TASE indexes have risen every day over the past month, with exception of two days of minor declines. The TA-100 Index rose .6 percent Monday alone, reaching a record 1,046 points. It has risen 8 percent over the past month. The TA-25 Index gained .4 percent, closing at a record 1,054 points and the large-cap index has risen by 5.7 percent since the beginning of the month.
The US dollar continues to decline, losing .5 percent at the opening of trade Monday. Its current value against the shekel is 4.046, as compared with 4.155 at the start of the month and a high of 5.0108 in June, 2002. The shekel is currently at its strongest.
Israeli Biotech Among Largest in Europe
Israel’s biotechnology industry boasts the sixth largest number of companies in all of Europe, according to Ernst & Young’s Beyond Borders: Global Biotechnology Report 2007. “This is a very complimentary figure, in light if Israel's size," Globes reported Ernst & Young Israel managing partner Yoram Wilamowski commenting on Israel’s 139 such companies.
Israeli biotechnology companies specialize in genetic R&D, diagnosis, treatment and drug delivery platforms, stem cells, and tissue engineering, according to Globes.
Small Business Index Rises to Record Level
Israel’s Small and Medium Business Index climbed to a record 104.7 points in March, according to a report by the Israel Small and Medium Enterprises Authority (ISMEA) and Dapei Zahav.
Since the beginning of the year, retail chains increased proceeds by 8.3 percent and commercial proceeds by 7.2 percent.
