The UN Security Council voted not to accept a resolution last night to condemn Israel for its recent incursions in PLO-controlled areas. The U.S. vetoed the resolution only because it demanded that Israel unconditionally withdraw under international law. The other Council states refused to accept the U.S. proposal to merely condemn Israel for its actions. No proposal to condemn the Palestinians for their violence against Israel, leading to Israel taking steps of self-defense, was even considered by the Security Council.
