The Economist has ranked Tel Aviv as a more affordable place to live than most of Europe’s large cities, as well as New York City.

The British business and politics magazine ranked the world’s 132 most expensive cities in its latest issue. Tel Aviv was ranked number 47.

The most expensive cities were Oslo, Paris, London, Copenhagen, Tokyo, Osaka, Reykjavik, Zurich, Frankfurt and Helsinki. New York was number 28.

Another cost of living survey, by Mercer Human Resource Consulting, ranked Moscow in first place, Seoul in second and Tokyo in third. Tel Aviv was ranked 24th in that survey.

Whereas the first survey focused on the cost of apartments and hotels, the second indexed the comparative cost of over 200 items in each of 144 locations.

Jewish Life Cost in America Keeps Rising

A recent survey by the American Jewish Committee shows that American Jews need $25-$35,000 a year of money to be spent solely on what it termed “intensive Jewish experiences” – defined as synagogue membership, Jewish Center membership, Jewish day school and camp experiences, Federation donations and kosher food.
